Vision

For scholarship and research in exercise, sport and movement sciences to be an influential and established component of higher education throughout Australia.

Mission

The Mission of the Association is to promote exercise, sport and movement sciences as areas of higher education study and research for the benefit of the Australian Community.

What we do

  1. Raising public awareness of the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences and their positive role in society;
  2. Communicating with and providing representation to national professional associations to advance the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences;
  3. Advocating to government, regulators, authorities and research funding bodies to advance the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences;
  4. Connecting people with universities providing higher education in the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences;
  5. Providing a conduit for the exchange of ideas and good practice for teaching, curriculum building and research in the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences; and
  6. Doing anything ancillary or incidental to the purposes above in the best interests of the membership.

Our Focus

Education

Support innovative education for the future workforce in exercise, sport, and movement sciences education around Australia. CHESMS leads an annual general meeting and conference, alongside potential facilitation of teleconferences and workshops to promote discussion and exchange ideas and good practice of for teaching and curriculum building on relevant topics to the exercise, sport, and movement science disciplines in higher education.

Research

Promote research excellence and provide leadership in research to improve the promotion, quality, and collaborative efforts of research in exercise, sport and movement sciences in Australia. 

Engagement

Regular engagement with Exercise & Sports Science Australia, fostering opportunities for collaboration and acting as a conduit for the CHESMS membership. We facilitate broader engagement with other representative bodies and regulatory groups (e.g., Council of Physiotherapy Deans Australia and New Zealand (CPDANZ) and Australian Council of Deans of Health Sciences (ACDHS)). We welcome opportunities to connect members and industry organisations, providing a forum to support informative policy and engagement to further the exercise, sport, and movement science professions.
