Council of Heads of Exercise, Sport, and Movement Sciences

Exercise, sport, and movement science professionals are critical resources for ensuring the health and productivity of our population. The continued growth and development of the exercise, sport, and movement science professions will prepare Australia for a future where health care is well resourced and Australians are afforded health futures.

The Council of Heads of Exercise Sport and Movement Sciences (CHESMS) is the representative body for higher education institutions delivering exercise and sports science and exercise physiology courses across Australia. The primary purpose of CHESMS is to raise public awareness of the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences and their positive role in society.

CHESMS communicates with and provides representation to national professional associations for the advancement of the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences. We advocate to government, regulators, authorities and research funding bodies and connect people with universities providing higher education within the discipline. We encourage the membership and discipline bodies to utilise CHESMS as a conduit for the exchange of ideas and good practice for teaching, curriculum building and research in the academic disciplines of exercise, sport and movement sciences.
